Ras El Hanout
With it’s arabic name translating to ‘head of the shop’, ras el hanout is a mixture of the best spices a shop has to offer. Found in Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco, it can be used for rubs, marinades, soups, stews, and to season tagine.
This spice mixture may vary in ingredients, as every shop may have their own special way of making it. Some versions of this may contain up to 40 spices mixed together!
It is a contradictory spice blend, as it has a sweet, warm taste, while also being woody, pungent, and bitter.
Also known as: ras el hanout, rass el hanout, رأس الحنوت
