Harde, sourced from the fruit of Terminalia chebula, is a staple in traditional South Asian culinary practices, especially within Ayurvedic traditions. Known for its unique earthy and slightly astringent taste, this dried fruit is valued not only for its flavor but also for its versatility in various applications.

At our spice shop, we offer high-quality, whole Harde fruit, carefully selected for its rich taste and robust texture. Whether used whole or broken down for recipes, Harde adds a distinctive depth, making it an excellent choice for those seeking to incorporate traditional flavors into their cooking or teas.

Popular Uses of Harde Whole:

  • Herbal Decoctions: Harde Whole can be simmered in water to create a warming, earthy decoction with a slightly astringent finish.
  • Infusions and Steeps: Soak Harde in warm water overnight to prepare a refreshing infusion, a common traditional practice.
  • Flavor Enhancer: This fruit’s bold flavor pairs well with other spices, adding complexity to soups, stews, and Ayurvedic dishes.

How to use it
Crack one or two dried fruits and simmer them in about two cups of water for fifteen to twenty minutes, then strain. The fruit can also be ground to a coarse powder and combined in equal parts with amla and baheda for a home-blended triphala. The taste is strongly astringent, so it is usually taken in small quantities with warm water. Technique tip: prise out the hard central stone before grinding, since it will blunt a spice grinder and adds nothing to the powder.
