Lotus Oil
Lotus Oil is drawn from the flowers of Nelumbo nucifera. The scent is soft and powdery-floral with a cool, watery edge behind it, closer to the smell of a pond in bloom than to a garden flower, and it finishes green rather than sweet.
It is obtained through solvent extraction or steam distillation. Neferin, nelumbon and lotusine sit behind its floral character. The lotus carries long-standing associations with purity, enlightenment and rebirth across a number of cultural and spiritual traditions.
How to use it
Use it in perfumery, in skincare and spa blends, in massage oils and in a diffuser during meditation. It blends with Frankincense, Sandalwood and Jasmine, and with other floral and woodsy oils. Technique tip: keep the dose low, one or two drops in a blend, because the aquatic note reads as soapy when it is over-concentrated.
