Sandalwood Powder
Sandalwood Powder is the aromatic heartwood of the Santalum album tree, ground fine. It is pale sandy-beige and smells warm, soft and creamy-woody, without the sharpness of cedar or pine, and it holds that scent for a long time in a closed jar.
The wood is milled to an almost silky grind that mixes into a smooth paste with water. Sandalwood has a long place in cultural and spiritual traditions across India and East Asia, where it is used ceremonially as a symbol of purity and peace.
How to use it
Mix it with water or rosewater into a paste for face masks, or work it into scrubs as a mild natural exfoliant. It is also blended into incense, perfumes and essential oil blends, used as a focus for meditation, and burned in religious rituals and ceremonies. Technique tip: let the paste stand five minutes after mixing so the powder fully takes up the water, otherwise it goes on grainy.
