There are three main species of spirulina that are sold worldwide. These are Arthrospira platensis, Arthrospira fusiformis, and Arthrospira maxima. All may be used as supplements and be consumed.
Spirulina powder is said to have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This powder is a popular addition to smoothie bowls, it can also be added to water, juice, or baked goods. Along with its health benefits, it adds a colorful pop to food that many enjoy as a natural food color. It may also be sprinkled on salads or added to soups.
