Star Anise Powder

Ameen Foods Star Anise Powder is made from finely ground star-shaped pods of the Illicium verum tree, grown in the forests of China and Vietnam. With its naturally sweet, licorice-like flavor, it's a key spice in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indian cooking.

How to use it
Use a quarter to half a teaspoon for a pot of soup, broth or stew, since the flavour is strong. It goes into pho broth, braised pork or duck, spiced syrups, poached pears, biscuits and mulled drinks, and it is a main component of Chinese five-spice powder. Technique tip: bloom the powder in a little hot oil or butter for ten seconds before adding liquid, which carries the aroma through the whole dish.
