Toasted Sesame Seeds

Toasted Sesame Seeds are Sesamum indicum seeds gently roasted to bring out a deep, nutty flavour and a rich golden colour. Toasting concentrates both taste and aroma, giving them a warm, earthy edge and a crispness that raw seeds do not have.

The roasting is done for you, so the seeds are ready to use straight from the jar.

How to use it

They are a staple of Asian and Middle Eastern cooking, good on sushi, salads, noodles, stir-fries, breads and pastries, and equally at home blended into sauces and spice mixes. Their toasty crunch adds texture and looks good as a garnish. The technique tip: add them at the very end, after the pan is off the heat. Seeds that are already toasted have no further browning to give and will only turn bitter with more heat, so scatter them over the finished dish rather than cooking them into it. Crush a spoonful lightly in a mortar to release the aroma into a dressing.
