Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E Oil is a thick, slow-absorbing oil drawn from vitamin E-rich sources such as wheat germ, sunflower seeds and almonds. It pours slowly, closer to glycerine than to a light nut oil, and has a very mild, neutral scent that will not compete with the essential oils you blend it with. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble compound and a long-standing ingredient in skin care formulations.

Because it has almost no aroma of its own, it is used as a carrier rather than for its scent, and it is a common base in creams, lotions and serums.

How to use it

Use it as a carrier oil to dilute essential oils for massage or roll-on blends, or work a few drops into a cream, lotion or serum for a richer, smoother feel. It is also used in hair care to condition hair and add shine. The technique tip: it is heavy on its own, so cut it with a lighter oil such as jojoba or grapeseed, around one part vitamin E to four parts light oil, if you want something that sinks in quickly rather than sitting on the surface. Patch test first, and note the wheat germ and almond sources if nut or wheat sensitivities are a concern.
