Rose Oil

Rose Oil is distilled from the petals of several rose species, most notably Rosa damascena and Rosa centifolia. The scent is dense and sweet, all petal and no stem, with a slightly waxy, honey-like warmth sitting behind the fresh floral top.

On the blotter it opens with a fresh, slightly green rose petal note and dries down into a deep, sweet, honeyed floral that lingers. Rose is one of the most recognised floral notes in perfumery and is used as a heart note in floral, woody and spiced blends. A little goes a long way, so blend it sparingly and add it last.

It is produced by steam distillation or solvent extraction. Phenethyl alcohol, geraniol and citronellol account for most of its floral character.

How to use it

Rose Oil is used in perfumery and in skincare formulations, where it adds a rich floral note. It also works in massage blends and diffusers, and blends with Jasmine, Geranium, Frankincense and Ylang-ylang, as well as other floral, woodsy and citrus oils. Technique tip: add it at the end of a blend, a drop at a time, since rose will dominate anything it is over-poured into.

For aromatic and external use only. Dilute well in a carrier oil before it touches the skin, avoid the eyes and broken skin, and keep the bottle sealed away from heat and sunlight.
