Round Golden Raisins (Kishmish)

Round golden raisins are sun dried grapes that keep their plump, berry shape and a bright golden colour. The skin stays smooth and the inside stays juicy, so the bite is soft rather than chewy, and the sweetness carries a gentle tang behind it, closer to a dried white grape than to the deep molasses note of a dark raisin.

These are the round grade in our golden range. Our long golden raisins are slim and stay visibly separate in a dish, whereas these are shorter, rounder and juicier, which makes them the better choice when you want the fruit to soften and blend in. They are paler and milder than red or black raisins, and plumper than a sultana.

How to use them

Stir them into Kabuli pulao, qabili and Persian rice such as zereshk polo, or into a herb and chickpea ash where they melt into the broth. They work in couscous with almonds and cinnamon, in a lamb tagine, in sheer payra and other milk sweets, and on a Nowruz platter with pistachios and dried apricot. For mainstream cooking, use them in bread pudding, carrot cake, muffins, granola, trail mix or a cheese board. Because they are already juicy, add them near the end of a stew so they hold their shape.
