Dried Mango Slices

Dried mango slices are long strips of ripe mango dried until they turn deep gold and chewy. The flavour is intense mango, sweet with a citrus edge behind it, much more concentrated than the fresh fruit, and the texture is soft and pliable rather than brittle.

These are cut as full slices rather than diced into cubes, so you can eat them as strips straight from the bag or cut them down to whatever size a recipe needs. Longer strips also hold their chew better than small pieces, which tend to dry out faster once the bag is open.

How to use them

Eat them as they are, or chop them into granola, trail mix, yogurt and overnight oats. In South Asian and Middle Eastern kitchens they go into chutney and sweet and sour relishes, into rice puddings, and they soften down into compote alongside apricots and raisins. They look good on a Nowruz or Eid platter, work on a cheese board with a sharp cheddar, and blend into smoothies. Technique tip: soak the strips in warm water for fifteen to twenty minutes before blending or baking, then use the soaking water in the recipe so none of the flavour is thrown away.
